TWITTER BASICS | Choose Username Wisely

Over the next few weeks, I will post about (1) how to use the platform and (2) tools you can use. In the past year, many celebrities have signed up for Twitter accounts, making this social media platform officially mainstream. That simply means you should have heard about Twitter by now. If you still have your doubts, I must emphasize, don’t knock the platform until you try it. I signed up for Twitter back in 2007. I think I had the account for months before I decided to really check it out. Twitter is the best when it comes to networking. You can follow other people and if people like what you are saying, they will follow you.
Quick Update and What’s Coming

Just in case you wondered what happened to the posts for this blog, I’ve been pretty busy on the design and marketing side of Tywebbin, in particular with the virtual book tours. A few quick updates…
Changing blog focus … just a little.
I will be changing the direction of this blog slightly in the next month. I will still be talking about social media, but will also talk about growing trends in marketing as well as publishing. I’ve been receiving quite a few questions about ebooks lately. With the iPad coming out April 3rd, I do think authors need to start thinking about offering their books in a wide variety of formats. Ebooks are definitely here to stay.
What happened to the Twitter class, Ty?
Yeah, I know.
I will start posting Twitter Basics on Monday April 5th.
If you are new to Twitter or don’t have time to keep up with the latest new, I encourage you to SIGN-UP HERE via email. If you signed up for the previous blog series, no problem, don’t do a thing.
Thank you to all of the NEW Facebook followers. You have all motivated me to get on the ball and update this blog. It’s long overdue. Drop me any questions you may have at ty at tywebbin dot com.
Be Blessed!

Document Sharing Social Media
Popular platforms: docstoc.com, scribd.com, slideshare.net
People like FREE stuff. Anytime you can provide a free resource that’s a promotion opportunity. Use these sites to upload excerpts, discussion questions for book clubs or articles. You can share the document via twitter, facebook, or grab the embed code to add anywhere.
Audio-Based Social Media
Popular platforms: blogtalkRadio.com, utterli.com, snapvine.com
You don’t necessarily have to start your own podcast or radio show, but if your platform calls for it, go for it! There are sources out there for you to get started. All you need is an account, and an assigned phone number. Like the videos, these sites provide embed codes so your audio files can be included on your site. You definitely want to consider being a guest on someone’s show as a part of your promotional tour.
Now do you really have to try all of these social media platforms?
