How to Reach People Not Using Social Media
If you haven’t noticed, there is a big push for using social media in the world of business and marketing. Well, what if the people you are trying to reach still don’t know anything about blogging or give you funny looks when you start to talk about “twittering?” You might have to think a little more about your audience’ social media destinations.
Marshall Kirkpatrick of ReadWriteWeb posted an article that may help you “walk in other people’s shoes” as you learn how to better utilize social media. Here are few interesting points:
Did You Know Half of U.S. Adults Use Social Media?
Are you text messaging? Have you started a blog? How many social networks have you joined this year? These are some questions to consider as you work out nontraditional marketing plans.
Sarah Perez of ReadWriteWeb reported the latest findings from Universal McCann’s "Media in Mind" study, which is an ongoing research effort that analyzes how consumers relate to media and products in their daily life. This particular study includes text messaging, blogging and social networking as the three main technologies used by 50% of U.S. adults for communication purposes.
Some other key findings:
- 1 out of 10 U.S. adults now publish blogs (up from 5% last year)
- 1 out of 5 18-34-year olds publish blogs (up from 10% last year)
- 22% of U.S. adults use IM (up from 9% last year)
- 21% of 18-34-year olds use IM (up from 14% last year)

Today, Black Web 2.0 highlighted a webinar hosted by Social CRM Expert Brent Leary and Online Business Development Expert David Bullock. Leary and Bullock discussed how small business owners can incorporate Barack Obama’s online campaign techniques. Not trying to endorse Obama, the two simply wanted to dig deep into the campaign’s successful online techniques.
I listened to both webinars and found them to be very thorough and engaging. I encourage you to check it out. If anything you can learn quite a bit about the power of using social media effectively as you market your book, product or event.
