Tears of Joy!

Posted by Ty on 29 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: The Cookie Jar (Misc)

I ran across a wonderful video today. The longer I sat to watch it, tears formed.  Not sad tears, but tears of joy.

God is so awesome! Really nothing is impossible with Him (Luke 1:37).

The video is called “Cardboard Testimonies.” Enjoy and be blessed!

Summer Explodes, Tempers Flare!

imageThis devotion was originally written in 1999. It’s been modified to reflect my thoughts on this subject today.

WHO TURNED UP THE THERMOSTAT?

I know most of us have heard the expression, "If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." During the summer months, I tend to purposely stay out of the kitchen, only using the oven if I must.

When the Weather Channel folks predict temperatures will rise above 95 and heat indexes even higher, I’m not trying to plan outdoor activities. Okay. I prefer to stay cozy with the air conditioner as much as possible.

Connecting with God | Wanza Leftwich

Posted by Ty on 23 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: Connecting with God

Wanza Leftwich Wanza, how do you find time to connect with God?

Between working full time for my church, being a wife and mom, I find time with God in strange places. I usually have prayer time in the shower or bath. My favorite time is when I can wake up in the middle of the night and meditate on God’s word. It is quiet and there are no distractions. I get my best ideas and strategies this way. It seems as if God’s ears are waiting for me to speak.

Where Did the Years Go?

Posted by Ty on 20 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: God's Word Unwrapped - Devotions

Today, I’m looking back over some of my older devotions and have decided to repost them. There’s no need for them to sit around if they can encourage someone.  What’s amazing, some of these writings are at least ten years old.

I’ve been keeping journals since I was 14 and most of these devotions were birthed from the journals I kept right after I became a Christian at age 25. It’s amazing how God brings us through various seasons of our lives.

I started thinking …

What’s the Big Deal About Other Religions

Posted by Ty on 15 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: Reading List

It’s July 15th, time for the Non~FIRST blog tour! Every 15th, we will feature an author and his/her latest non~fiction book’s FIRST chapter! The feature authors are: John Ankerberg and Dillon Burroughs and their book:  What’s the Big Deal About Other Religions (Harvest House Publishers - March 1, 2008)

Read the FIRST Chapter

what'sthebigdealChristianity:

What’s the Big Deal About Jesus?

“Christianity is good for you, but it’s not right for me. I think you ought to believe whatever makes you happy and gives you peace.”

“Christianity is the ‘right’ religion—isn’t that being naive?”

The label Christianity covers a broad range of people today. While over 2.1 billion people are statistically considered followers of Jesus Christ, polls by religious researcher George Barna have observed that only four percent of American Christians hold to a biblical worldview (that is, beliefs consistent with the Bible’s teachings), and just 51 percent of Christian clergy hold to such a view. As a result, even many who call themselves Christians have agreed with the quotes that appear above, asking if it is perhaps naïve to claim Christianity is the only way to God.

The Quiet One

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;your works are wonderful, I know that full well. – Psalm 139:14

You know what really bugs me sometimes, okay well maybe most of my life is how people judge me. I am an introvert, a person who is an observer by nature. I am a behind the scenes gal. I love to teach and certainly don’t mind being in a leadership role, but I crave the solitary moments in my life where I can read, write, or just watch my cats play.

Speaking in front of crowd is exhilarating to me and at the same time I love deep conversations about life and especially about the awesome role God plays in our lives. I’ve learned that the type of conversations I enjoy, most people are interested in or they become uncomfortable when they have to dig too deep. This bothers me and most of the time I keep conversations to a minimum. I’m okay with being the quiet one. Continue Reading »
