Where Did the Years Go?

Today, I’m looking back over some of my older devotions and have decided to repost them. There’s no need for them to sit around if they can encourage someone. What’s amazing, some of these writings are at least ten years old.
I’ve been keeping journals since I was 14 and most of these devotions were birthed from the journals I kept right after I became a Christian at age 25. It’s amazing how God brings us through various seasons of our lives.
I started thinking …
- I wasn’t married ten years ago. My struggles as a wife are so much different from when I was a single gal.
- Ten years ago I lived in a different city
- Over ten years ago I was just learning about the Internet. I’ve been designing Web sites since 1997. The Internet has grown so much and I have to learn so much to keep up with the new technology. I’m still behind.
- I’m attending a different church now. Ten years ago, I was really heavy into the youth ministry. Now, I mostly work with the women’s minstry.
- Goodness, I can’t even say I liked cats ten years ago. Now, I have two of them. LOL! Life is truly a marvel.
This morning at the 8:00 service the chaplain spoke from Jeremiah 18:1-11. I haven’t read Jeremiah or any of the prophets as much as I would have liked, but I was familiar with the potter aspect of this passage.
Read verses 1-4 below:
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD : 2 "Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message." 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
God told Jeremiah to go down to the potter’s house so he could illustrate a visual analogy about God being the Master Potter. Have you ever pondered how God used events and struggles to shape you? How often He’s poked, pounded and pressed on you and you wonder what is going on here? Like the potter, God takes great care in molding us into what He desires.
Whatever you are going through this week, I encourage you to read the rest of this selected passage Jeremiah 18:1-11. This is an awesome passage to meditate on this week.
Look out for my “classics” on Monday’s. The “Connecting to God” series will start back up this week too and will be posted on Wednesday’s. I’m also making plans to add some of the bible studies I’ve written in a downloadable format in the next few weeks.
Keep God first and get some rest today. I’m looking forward to my Sunday afternoon siesta. :)
